Online Data Backup Solutions

The only way to ensure 100% data recovery from an accident is to backup before it occurs.

Backing up to an external hard drive is an excellent, extremely easy and low cost way to keep your data safe. But if you experience a local disaster such as a fire or flood, that external drive is just as much at risk of data loss. If you have any data for yourself or your business that would be devastating to lose, online backup is one of the best solutions.

Google Apps Online Backup

This is ideal for home users and small businesses that don't need as much space or the advanced options that our Dedicated Backup services provide. Please see our Google Apps page for more information.

Dedicated Backup Service Rates:

  • Space comes in blocks as follows starting at 20GB of space:
    • 20GB - $35 per month
    • 50GB - $60 per month
    • 100GB - $115 per month
    • 200GB - $220 per month
    • 500GB - $500 per month
    • Greater that 500GB please call
  • Pay for a year in advance and receive one month free!
  • No locked in contract! You are free to cancel service at any time. If you've paid for a year in advance, you will receive a pro-rated refund for the unused time.

Dedicated Backup Service Features:

  • Ideal for businesses or individuals that need large blocks of dedicated space. Allows more control over how the data is backed up and more options for different platforms.
  • Personal storage account. Multiple user accounts are possible if you want to share space between several people but keep it separate.
  • Back up any kind of data from as many computers and locations as you wish. Several online backup services have started instituting controls to limit what you can backup and who you can share it with (DRM). We have zero restrictions on data other than your storage limit.
  • Online backup services offered by your ISP, while cheaper, are often tied to your account with them. If/when you cancel service with them, you must close your online backup account as well. We are independent from your ISP so you can take our backup service with you wherever you go!
  • Windows, Mac & Linux operating systems are supported.
    • Windows users are provided with a very powerful automated backup tool. It provides scheduled backups, compression, versioning & encryption (see data privacy below). Compression allows you to take better advantage of the space available to you. Versioning allows you to "snapshot" files and keep several revisions of your files. There is also a tool available to mount your storage space as a local drive letter.
    • Mac & Linux users can use built in tools such as SSH & Rsync to connect and perform automated & manual backups. Versioning & encryption are possible, and you are free to set it up on your own, but currently we do not provide support for it for these OS's.
    • All operating systems can also use any utility that provides a secure ftp connection. A great program for any OS is FileZilla.
  • Does not use Cloud Storage technology like the Google Apps solutions. Data is stored on clustered, RAID systems in a data warehouse environment.
  • On-site setup is available for Windows & Linux PCs at our normal labor rates. Please contact Mac Medics for Mac setup support.

Data Privacy Concerns:

  • For all customers, data is sent over an encrypted connection to the backup location (similar to online banking security).
  • If you are concerned about the privacy of the data itself after it has been stored remotely, there are several options available:
    • For Windows users, the Dedicated Solution backup software can automatically encrypt the data that is placed on the remote backup location.
    • You can create a TrueCrypt volume and upload that as your backup. This has the advantage of encrypting your data both locally (to protect your data if your PC is stolen) & remotely. TrueCrypt is supported on Windows, Mac & Linux. This will work for both the Dedicated & Google Apps backup options.
    • Please be aware that losing the password or encryption key files will result in the loss of your data. Encryption is sometimes a necessary way to safeguard the privacy of your data, but extra precautions are required to ensure you don't lose access to that data. We are not responsible for lost passwords or key files.
